Grades 1 and 2 General Information
WHO:
- Designed for children who are in 1st or 2nd grade during the soccer season which runs from Fall to Spring
- Grades are generally separated for practices and games
- Girls and Boys are separated for practices and games
- At this level, we strive to create balanced teams and hence, NO BUDDY REQUESTS are accepted.
WHAT:
- 2 seasons: Fall and Spring
- 1 game and 1 practice per week
GAMES:
- Saturday mornings 8:30 - 10:00 AM
- Location: Morehouse Farm Park on Field Area #1 and #2. More specific field locations will be posted near the registration table before each session and online after the season starts. Entrance to park is located on Rt 53 just across from Valley Forge Road.
PRACTICES:
- Mondays OR Tuesdays 3:15 - 4:45 PM at South House Field at Hurlbutt school
- Run by the Soccer Extreme professional coaches
- Player MUST wear shin guards, soccer cleats and weather appropriate comfortable clothing. If possible, please send the kids to school IN their practice clothes so they can get out to the fields quickly and only need to change into their cleats and shin guards.
- Player should bring soccer ball and water.
- For the safety of our players, if you send a snack, please keep it NUT FREE!!
- Please label ALL items! Items left behind will be placed in the HES Lost and Found
- Check Hotline to determine if practices are cancelled -- see info at bottom of this page
- Roll call taken and a Practice Parent volunteer takes list of missing children into school office to confirm their absence with school records. Any child not accounted for will have their parents contacted immediately
- To participate, the player's parent MUST provide their child EVERY WEEK a note for school that they participate in after-school soccer practice
- Parent should also provide note to teacher explaining what child is to do in the event of a practice cancellation
- Children should be picked up immediately at the end of practice
PRACTICE FOCUS:
- Teaching basic skills, creativity and team participation
- To provide every child with a terrific experience in learning and playing soccer
- Building a comprehensive and identifiable skill set
- Includes drills and games
- Teams in scrimmages do not necessarily follow the Saturday team structure so it is a chance for the child to play with other friends and extend their playing skills
REGISTRATION:
- Registration is online only and is a 2-step process: Registration and Payment
- Both steps must be completed for your child to be placed on a team.
- Please be sure to provide a cell phone number for use on the emergency contact list kept at practices.
UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT:
- Weston Soccer Club reversible jerseys are worn during all Saturday games, not necessary at practices
- Jerseys are ordered during the registration process and picked up at the registration table during the first session.
- Players must wear cleats, shin guards, bring #4 ball (labeled clearly with player's name on it) and water.
- Players must remove all jewelry including watches, necklaces and bracelets
VOLUNTEERS:
- Since the Rec program is run entirely by volunteers, it is mandatory that at least one parent volunteer for a duty; this is done on the registration form
- "Practice Parents" are present for each boys and girls grade practice. They are there to help get the kids onto the fields and assist with any bumps or scrapes that may occur during the practice. They have an emergency contact list, should it be required.

- How do I know if Monday Practice is taking place?
- The only source for this information is the Weston Soccer hotline 834-3773, the same number you call for Saturday field status
- Call the day of practice to learn the status of the fields
- If fields are closed, there will be no practice regardless of the weather at 3:15 PM that day
- The school does not know anything about practices, so do NOT call the school office.
- Please send your child to school with their soccer gear even if the weather looks bad. It is NOT acceptable to drop their notes and gear off in the main office during the day.
- What happens if the fields are closed? Will they reopen?
- As stated in our general policy, once fields are closed for the day they will stay closed.
- Your child will be sent home at the close of school, regardless of the weather status at 3:15 PM that day
- What if the fields are open but the weather looks bad?
- If the weather looks bad but the fields are open, the practice will take place
- If there is light rain or similar conditions, the practice will continue, as soccer is not affected by these conditions
- If there is lightning and/or thunder in the area, the children will be removed immediately from the fields until the condition passes
- If the lightning and/or thunder persist for any period of time (more than 20-30 minutes) the practice will be cancelled and you should come for your children. You can pick them up in the South House Cafeteria.
- The tricky part is knowing if and when to come in the above case. We will always err on the side of safety so if the conditions do not look like they are going to improve, you should come pickup your child from the South House Cafeteria
