Referee and Game Field Assigning

I am handling the Referee program and the Game Field assigning for the Weston Soccer Club again this Fall. My contact information is:

Lincoln Briggs (917) 518-3320

As the field scheduling is done in advance, there will be no need to tell me about your home games on a weekly basis unless there is some change from the schedule.  No later than Thursday evening each week, I will send you a confirmation with the names of the referees assigned to your game. I generally have the referees confirm their assignments to me, so it is up to you if you want to contact the referees directly yourselves as well.

We will do our best to accommodate any schedule changes, but predictably the more notice you give us the more success we will have. Also, please be sure to notify me if your game is cancelled.

Paying referees:  Please pay the referees before the start of each games as they may need to leave for another game immediately following yours. In order for you to be reimbursed, you must fill out the Weston Soccer Club Reimbursement form and have each of the referees sign it when you pay them.  (This is for IRS compliance, and these forms are available on the website: www.westonsoccer.com.)  The fee schedule is as follows:

Girls/Boys 3 and 4, U-10 – Center, $40, AR’s $25
Girls/Boys 5/6, 7/8, U-11 through U-14 – Center $55, AR’s $35
Girls/Boys U-15 through U-19 (High School) – Center $60, AR’s $40

(In general, we will try to get AR's (linesmen) for all games U11 and older).

For CT Cup Games
U11 to U14: Center Referee - $55 and Linesmen - $30
U15 to U19: Center Referee - $60 and Linesmen - $35

Conduct Towards Referees.   It is always difficult to recruit and retain referees, and in the past some referees have quit because of abuse they have received from spectators or coaches. The Weston Soccer Club has a zero tolerance policy regarding such behavior, and the referees are instructed to end the game and leave the field it they feel threatened in any way.   If a situation develops that makes you or the referees feel uncomfortable, please call us immediately. Most of our referees are kids just a couple of years older than the players, and all are trying their best. Please, do everything you can to calm any overzealous  coach or spectator from either team.

The other aspect of our job is to improve the skills of our referees and help them develop.  We will do our best to observe the referees in action as much as we can, but we would greatly appreciate whatever feedback you can provide. Whenever you have something to say, positive or negative, about the performance of any of our referees, please send me an e-mail with your thoughts.

There is a referee section on the Weston Soccer Club website (www.westonsoccer.com) where we will post information and forms from time to time. We will let you all know when we post anything of particular interest.

We look forward to working with all of you!

Lincoln Briggs
