Field Closing Procedure and Communications

Field closings are announced via the Weston Soccer Club Hotline at 834-3773 and by email to team officials.

Grass fields in Weston are closed by the Parks & Rec Department when they are so wet that playing on them will damage them. This means that sometimes the fields will still be closed when there has been a hard rain in the morning but the weather has cleared by the afternoon.

The Parks & Rec Department sends an email to all club and team officials whenever the fields have been closed. Team officials then forward the information to their team members by email. When in doubt, or if you're away from your computer, check the hotline number before leaving for the field.

The artificial turf fields are generally open rain or shine. The hotline will state if they are closed for some reason.

In addition, natural grass fields will be closed a few times each year following pesticide applications.

The Hotline is updated each morning at approximately 8:00 AM on weekends and approximately noon on weekdays. Updates are made during the day as necessary. If in doubt, check the hotline before leaving from home.

Interruption of Play Due to Lightning:

Play will be interrupted by referees and/or team officials due to thunderstorm activity according to the following SWD policy:
Lightning – Recognizing the threat. Apply the 30-30 rule: When you see lightning, count the time until you hear thunder. If this time is 30 seconds or less, seek proper shelter. If you can’t see the lightning, just hearing the thunder is a good back-up rule. Wait 30 minutes or more after hearing the last thunder before leaving shelter. Referees must protect the safety of all participants by stopping game activities quickly, so that participants and spectators may retire to a safer place before the lightning threat becomes significant. Remember, if you can hear the thunder, you are within reach of lightning
